The reputation and the image of our farm therefore of our wines, benefit the sustainable management of the energy necessary for production.

Our farm wants to measure its environmental impact to describe its wines, not only on the technical aspects like denomination of origin, alcohol content, aromas, flavours, history and tradition, but we want also to communicate that our products follow specific protocols aimed to limiting the use of environmental resources, which must be respected as will be our bequest to future generations.
CARBON E WATER FOOTPRINT
The diagnosis of sustainability (understood as a production process that uses methods and means of production and defense against adversity, aimed at minimizing the use of synthetic chemicals and rationalizing fertilization, in compliance with ecological, economic and toxicological principles, with a clear positive interaction with regard to a lower possible pollution of surface and deep water bodies) has been addressed with two distinct approaches:

Since 2011 at product level: it allowed to perform an analysis focused on the product Pinot Grigio Castello di Porcia and Ca' Bembo and to communicate the actual commitment of the winery in the environmental and socio-economic field.

Since 2020, the organization has been able to carry out a wider evaluation of all the vineyards of the Estate, acquiring awareness of the possibility of improvement in the entire supply chain."

THE PRODUCTION CYCLE

“Sun, earth, man's work and advanced technology.
It is only their combination that leads us to reap cereals, soybeans, grapes, walnuts, poplars and fodder. Their production and transformation take shape in our two companies in Porcia and Azzano Decimo, together with livestock and fishing activities.
The historical cellar of the Castello di Porcia and the Farm of Azzano represent and combine history and tradition with innovation and planning.
Respecting the soil, the men who cultivate it and all those who appreciate our work has been our leitmotiv for 55 generations: ours is "dynamic tradition", scilicet the ability to collect and consolidate the outcomes of good agricultural practices of the past to invest and build the farm of the future, continually respecting the environment.”

Renewable energies

Today all our production can be said to be sustainable thanks to our investments in three important projects.
Reconversion, in Azzano Decimo, of the roof of the farms, the winery and the shelters for a total of:
2500 SQM OF PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS
WITH BALANCE OF THE BUDGET
BETWEEN ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION.
Modification of the turbine of the hydroelectric power plant in Porcía, near the family castle, with the aim of capturing the different flow rates and floods of the Rio Buion.
300.000 KWH/YEAR
HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY
Construction in the Azzano’s farm of a plant for the production of biogas foster with its own dedicated cereal crops, manure from its own breeding farm. The maximum power is 1 MW, which allows us to enter the network:
8.400.000 KWH/YEAR
OF ENERGY FROM BIOGAS
Construction in Palse (Porcia) of a plant for the production of biogas foster with its own dedicated cereal crops, zootechnical sewage from adjacent pig breeding. The maximum power is 300 kW, which allows us to enter the network:
2.400.000 KWH/YEAR
OF ENERGY FROM BIOGAS
HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION AT THE PORCIA CASTLE: ENERGY FROM WATER
The Porcia have used the hydraulic power of the Roggia, the canal below the family castle with hydraulic wheels that transferred the mechanical force to the mill and threshing tree since the last century. In 1934 a Francis turbine was installed for the production of energy to be used, for start-up of the same was built a new drainage channel, lowered to increase the useful jump, from 3.10 meters to 4 meters. In 1986 they replaced Francis with a submerged helical turbine. The renewal of the plant is dated back to October 2012 with the installation of a new Kaplan group equipped with an automatic blade adjustment system, extremely efficient, able to maintain high efficiency (up to 300,000 kw / year), even with lower water floods.
ASCENTING SYSTEM FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE PISCATORIAL FAUNA
To minimize the environmental impact of the new hydroelectric power plant and to protect the fishes’ reproduction and population of the Rio Bujon below the Porcia’s Castle, in collaboration with the Fishing Protection Authority, a climbing ladder specifically designed for eels, known as “Bisat” in the Pordenone area, was created.

plans for the future

Our plans for future to strengthen the presence of our wines on national market
TO CONQUER THE CUSTOMER’S THE CONFIDENCE SHOWING THE STRONG VALUE ADDED BY ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY.
